Editorial Policy
How ShopSpindle researches, writes, reviews, and corrects content. Our commitment to technical accuracy and independence.
Our Mission
ShopSpindle exists to provide technically accurate, practical information for CNC machinists and manufacturing engineers. We measure success by whether our content helps real people make better decisions in real machine shops — not by page views, affiliate commissions, or sponsored placement.
What We Publish
- Technical guides: Process explanations, machine selection guides, and troubleshooting procedures grounded in engineering principles and verified data
- Buyer guides: Machine and equipment comparisons using publicly available specifications — no paid influence on rankings
- Reference charts and tables: Material properties, process capability data, and formula references sourced from manufacturer data sheets, ASME/ISO standards, or academic literature
- Interactive calculators: Tools built on established engineering formulas, with formula and assumptions documented inline
Research and Sourcing
Primary sources we use and accept:
- Manufacturer technical documentation (cutting speed charts, machine specifications, material data sheets)
- ASME Y14.5, ISO 286, ISO 1101, ISO 4287, and other relevant standards
- Peer-reviewed academic literature (Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, CIRP Annals)
- First-hand experience of our technical reviewers from production environments
We do not cite: press releases, competitor marketing copy, unverified forum posts, or AI-generated content as primary sources.
Review Process
Every article published on ShopSpindle goes through the following steps:
- Draft: Written by a member of the editorial team with background in manufacturing engineering
- Technical review: Reviewed by a working machinist or manufacturing engineer with direct experience in the topic area. Reviewers confirm numerical claims, flag incorrect assumptions, and suggest practical nuances from shop-floor experience
- Source check: All numerical claims (speeds, forces, tolerances, material properties) are verified against a primary source before publication
- Publication: Published with date stamp. Significant updates receive a "Updated:" date stamp
Corrections Policy
We take accuracy seriously and correct errors promptly. To report an error:
- Use the corrections form — describe the error, the correct information, and your source
- We acknowledge substantive technical corrections within 5 business days
- Verified errors are corrected in the article and logged in the article's correction record
- We do not silently delete incorrect content — corrections are noted at the bottom of the relevant section
Advertising and Commercial Independence
ShopSpindle does not accept:
- Paid placement or sponsored rankings in buyer guides
- Affiliate commission arrangements that influence recommendations
- "Guest content" from brands without full disclosure
- Payment to improve or maintain coverage of a specific product
If ShopSpindle ever introduces advertising or affiliate links, we will disclose this clearly on every page where such links appear. As of the launch date (September 19, 2026), ShopSpindle carries no advertising.
AI and Automation Disclosure
